Hossein Rezvani (also known as Hossein Rezaei) was a 26-year-old resident of Mashhad who was killed during the protests on January 9, 2026. On that Friday night, he was shot by security forces stationed within a security building overlooking Meraj Square. He sustained three fatal gunshot wounds from live ammunition, striking him in the heart, shoulder, and side. Following his death, his family faced severe restrictions and extortion from security agencies. Authorities reportedly demanded 500 million tomans from the family to release his body. Furthermore, they were prohibited from holding a funeral ceremony and were denied permission to bury him in his hometown of Mashhad. Hossein was eventually laid to rest in the village of Shir Hesar. He was buried in the village cemetery next to his mother's grave, away from the city where he lived and died.
